A little update on me...

So I'm back here again, writing a blog. Now if you have read this blog before or look back at previous posts, you will see that this blog is just about me; holidays, my the start of my career and a bit of writing about football that I did once- which was the reason I spent hours setting up a blog page in the first place and as luck would have it, I got a role in football in the first week or so of starting to write about it.

This isn't being made for any commercial reason, I'm not writing it to get views or make money off of this blog in any way. Basically as part of my degree that I am doing at the moment, it became apparent to me that self-reflection is something that I am lacking and this platform gives me the ability to reflect on all things going on in life and in the world, but if you would like to read a long and see what I'm up to and listen to my thoughts on the world- great!

For anybody that doesn't know me, let me try and summarise me and my background so far. I previously worked in football, working for Gillingham, Leyton Orient and Brentford, before moving into teaching. I taught PE in a secondary school and now in a Primary school, writing the PE curriculum and every lesson plan for the entire 23 schools in the Harris Federation. After leaving football I created Performance Analysis UK, a website that provides football coaching and analysis courses for aspiring analysts and coaches (I promise, that's the only plug I'll do, the link is more for helping to understand what I do more anything). As previously mentioned, I'm studying for a degree. This is a Professional Doctorate at the University of Birmingham, which basically means I am studying for the highest qualification possible in the country, around a subject that I love- football. In this degree I am going to be interviewing academy coaches from the 25 best academies in Europe, including Barcelona, Ajax, Chelsea and Man City, that have helped to develop the Champions League players of today.

I'm currently living in Tunbridge Wells with my partner, Lauren, trying to stay sane in the third national lockdown within a year. Currently being a Key Worker I'm still working full time, teaching children in not just a PE role, but also not have the joys of teaching the new ways to learn the things that I was taught at school. Apparently in Maths it is no longer acceptable to move the decimal point, it is the numbers that move when multiplying by ten, and in English we now have 'front adverbials', which cannot have existed ten year ago, if they did it went straight over my head in school. Some say reinventing the wheel (a phrase that I hate, why would you not try and improve and streamline anything?), with my educator-head on, the kids get it so it must be working.

And that's me. Oh and I'm learning German, have been for a year or so on-and-off, my spoken isn't great as I don't have much practice but my listening is becoming better as I spend a lot of my spare time watch German language World War 2 films. The country fascinates me with it's history and I think by learning the (very difficult and at times unnecessarily complicated) language, I can learn more from the past politically, from German football coaches and just be able to order a meal when we are allowed back into Europe, Covid and Brexit laws dependant.

So if teaching full time, running a business, doing a full-time doctoral degree and learning German isn't enough, I thought why not write a blog! Now I can't promise how regular this will be, it maybe weekly, bi-weekly or monthly but I will try to keep up with it as I try to keep my life in check, reflect on what I am doing and just discuss some of my life lessons along the way.

Thanks for reading and if anything along the way catches your attention that you would like to chat about, my Twitter and LinkedIn are there for you.

Let’s talk about cows…

Now, I like a cow as much as the next person. Look great in a field, taste great in burger. But recently I’ve been watching and reading...
